The importance of lighting
More than half of the world's population currently lives in cities and the scenario is set to get worse, with two thirds of people expected to live in metropolitan areas by 2050. Traditional agriculture will not be able to provide these people with healthy food in sufficient quantity and quality. One of the solutions will be urban agriculture, growing vegetables and fruit in the middle of big cities. However, these plants will also have to be fed, mainly with water and light, both of which are increasingly scarce natural resources, especially in such an environment. Their proper management will therefore be the key factor in making this whole process viable.
The situation in all other areas is not very different, for the same reasons, with a particular focus on natural lawns used in a wide variety of sporting activities, both because of their social and economic importance.
