LIGHTING FOCUSED ON WELL-BEING

Whatever the space to be lit, its configuration and type of use, demands on the quality of the workplace are growing. With the focus on people, companies need to create conditions that motivate their employees and are geared towards their well-being.

In this sense, each room needs a concept that fulfills individual needs as well as requirements for the overall atmosphere. Existing room concepts can benefit from modern developments and technical innovations - especially in the area of LED office lighting.

People-centred lighting

The focus of lighting must increasingly be on people, whether at home, in the workplace or in leisure spaces, increasing their comfort and well-being. This will result in healthier and happier people, with direct effects on productivity. This concept is called human centered.

Lighting must therefore adapt to people's biological rhythms, inverting the logic that has generally been followed to date and mimicking as much as possible the variation in natural light throughout the day. To do this, it is necessary to act on colour temperature, chromatic restitution, glare, illuminance and uniformity.

Together, all these factors make a decisive contribution to a lighting solution adapted to the real needs of the people in each space.

CCT - Correlated Colour Temperature (Tcp)

Using the right colour temperature is one of the key factors in ensuring the necessary comfort and well-being. Although cooler colour temperatures guarantee better visual acuity and higher levels of attention and concentration, they can lead to a greater sense of discomfort than warmer colour temperatures. It is therefore essential to find the best possible balance, which usually means using neutral values around 4000 K.

State-of-the-art solutions use colour temperature variation throughout the day in order to match the variation in sunlight as closely as possible, while respecting people's biological rhythm.

CRI - Colour Rendering Index (Ra)

Colour rendering is one of the key factors in the design of a people-focused lighting solution because it helps to maximise the correspondence with natural light. The higher the value, the better the match.

Ideally, this value would be 100. However, the best technical and economic compromise is to use solutions with a value above 80. In some cases and for very technically demanding applications, this value can exceed 90 or even 95.

UGR - Unified Glare Rating

UGR is another determining factor for a people-focused lighting solution. High levels of glare affect working capacity, as well as causing people enormous discomfort and, consequently, malaise, and can ultimately lead to the appearance of pathologies that will affect productivity.

For applications of this type, this value should be below 19, and can be as low as 17 or even 15. The actual value to be considered depends on various factors, particularly the type of space and activity, and is regulated by the various applicable standards.
